The Iberiangeothermal network.
Connecting researchers, professionals and institutions to share knowledge and develop geothermal energy across Spain and Portugal.

What is Geo-RIN?
Geo-RIN is the Iberian Geothermal Research and Innovation Network.
We bring people and institutions together to share research, build collaborations and connect society with the applications of geothermal energy.

A connection with a wider reach
The energy transition begins beneath our feet, too.
Geo-RIN is part of SubSurface Transition, Fundación Nova Core’s programme connecting geoscience, knowledge and industrial capabilities to explore geothermal potential with better evidence.
Explore the programmeThe network brings together the scientific and professional geothermal community in Portugal and Spain.
The programme connects data, expertise, technology and partners to reduce uncertainty and prepare geothermal opportunities.
A Fundación Nova Core programmeOne resource. Many depths.
Geothermal energy reaches far beyond volcanoes. We explore its full scope, from heating and cooling buildings to harnessing deep geothermal heat.

Close to the surface
Comfort starts beneath our feet.
The ground can exchange heat with our buildings. Shallow geothermal energy uses this exchange for heating, cooling and hot water through heat pumps.

- Heating and cooling
- Ground-source heat pumps
From resource to community
Earth’s heat, in everyday life.
Geothermal resources can supply heat to urban networks, industrial processes, agricultural facilities and other thermal uses, depending on each resource’s conditions.
- District heating
- Industrial processes
- Agriculture and thermal uses
Towards deeper resources
Research deeper. Open up possibilities.
Subsurface research, exploration and engineering help assess deep resources for supplying heat and, where conditions allow, generating electricity.

- Engineering and reservoirs
- Heat and electricity generation
Knowledge grows through sharing.
Every exchange helps build the network. These are the spaces where we aim to connect science, practice and society.
Scientific gatherings
Conferences and workshops to share research, discuss challenges and bring the geothermal community together.
The next announced gathering is Geo-RIN Conference 2027 in the Azores. Explore the event page for dates and venue information.
